Overview
The new SSE-G48-TG4 from Supermicro is a standalone 48-port Layer 2/Layer 3 1/10-Gigabit Ethernet switch. It offers a full suite of advanced Ethernet switching features - the same as in the new Ethernet switch for the Supermicro SuperBlade® server systems. In addition to the 48 ports at 1-gigabit per second, the SSE-G48-TG4 offers up to four 10-gigabit per second "uplink ports". These uplink ports can be used to connect to 10-Gigabit Ethernet backbone networks or servers with 10-Gigabit Ethernet connectivity - or they can be "stacked" together to create an even larger capacity switch. Fiber or copper wiring options are available for the 10-Gigabit connections.
Offered in a 1U form factor, the SSE-G48-TG4 switch is ideal for use as a wiring closet aggregation switch, as a top-of-rack aggregation switch, or even as a core switch for a small business or branch office. A comprehensive set of management tools are available through either a Command Line Interface or through a Browser-based GUI.

Supermicro SSE-G48-TG4 Layer 3 switch reviewed by Network Computing
In a year that has seen many of the Tier 1 server vendors struggling to make ends meet, Supermicro has been posting some stunning results. This is in no small part thanks to this manufacturer's huge range of aggressively priced servers, workstations and motherboards, but it has even bigger expansion plans in mind, and has now launched its own range of network switches.
